I like Gold and Emerald. Many of those games are good though. But those are two of my favorites.

2nd gen pokemon games set a new standard, that, sad to say, ruby and sapphire lowered a little bit.
You can't keep a good... er... bad... er... you can't keep a wierd scarecrow like kid being taken over by a mask down!
